This newspaper article, published on December 25, 1929, discussed the extravagant dinner menu served at the Louisville Hotel exactly sixty-three years earlier. On Christmas Day of 1866, the hotel served a variety of meat dishes with sauces, jellies, soups, and dressings, as well as multiple types of wine. Historical Note: "America Eats" was to be a volume in the American Life Series funded by the Works Projects Administration. The publication was to give a detailed picture of American eating habits by region and was to be both informative and amusing. The project was not completed and this volume was never published. KYSV1661-A is a history of the Work Projects Administration in Kentucky and KYSV1683-A is a history of the Federal Writers' Project in Kentucky, which created these records.

Scope Note: These records include a variety of materials regarding typical Kentucky fare, from both individuals and famous Kentucky restaurants. In addition to recipes, the file contains menus from Kentucky restaurants and inns, essays on such subjects as the traditional Kentucky mint julep, and anecdotal material on Kentucky food.
